Early life

Sidharth Malhotra was born on January 16, 1985 in Delhi to Rimma Malhotra, a housewife and Sunil Malhotra who was a captain in Merchant Navy. His mother originates from Amritsar while his father hails from Delhi. He was brought up in Delhi, attending Birla Vidya Niketan. At the age of 8, he and his family moved to Mumbai, Maharashtra. He has been interested in acting since his school days. He attended St. Xaviers school in Mumbai, India.
 

Career

Modelling

Siddharth Malhotra started his career as a ramp model during his college days. He has been associated with brands like NIIT, Color Plus & Pantaloons. He has walked the ramp for designers like Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal. He has even modeled in Paris and Dubai. Malhotra was seen in Roberto Cavalli’s advertisement campaigns and also on the covers of several magazines like RedBook, Gladrags and Men’s Health.

Biography: At 16 he began an early career in modeling. He won the title of Mr Gujarat 2007 and was the 2nd runner up in the Gladrags Mega-model & Manhunt in the very same year. A top model, he has walked the ramps for designers like Manish Malhotra and Rohit Bal. He has modeled even in Paris and Dubai. Malhotra was seen in Roberto Cavalli’s advertisement campaigns and also surfaced in the covers of several magazines like RedBook, Gladrags and Men’s Health. He is also a VJ and Assistant Director with NDTV and has been in contract with leading modeling company, Gladrags since 2008.
Born to Rajeev Malhotra and Leena Malhotra, Sidharth has managed to create a niche for himself. Currently, he has bagged Karan Johar’s Student of the Year which is due in October 19, 2012. Dharma Productions' Student Of The Year , set in a high-school campus, is a story about friendship, with the romantic angle thrown in. St. Teresa is a prestigious high school where there are, basically, two kinds of students � spoilt kids of the rich and famous, and the intelligent children from middle-class families. Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan) is one such student studying in the school. Rohan loves Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt) who is affluent and wears only designer labels. She loves Rohan but is unhappy about his proximity to other girls, especially school-mate Tanya (Sana Syed) who lusts for Varun.Abhimanyu Singh (Siddharth Malhotra) is an intelligent student from middle class family.

Student of the Year Indian comedy campus romance film directed by Karan Johar,the film is produced by Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan under the banner of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment,film released on 19 October 2012. Siddharth played the character of Abhimanyu a student and the story revolves around the three characters one is Siddharth Malhotra, and other is Varun Dhavan & Aliaa Bhatt. Abhimanyu singh dashing dude of the college who hails from a middle class family and is orphan. But with Dharma Productions and Manish Malhotra there's no such thing as poor. He get into the prestigious school St. T’s, all because of his sports scholarship, he is very atheletic. Abhimanyu singh's aim in the school is to be the student of the year. Abhimanyu too wins the heart of the gorgeous girl of the school Shanaya Singhania. Abhimanyu supposed to be a middle class kid with no parents but he enter the college wearing leather jacket, cool shades, jeans, shoes. When he questioned the production team they said it's 'Dharma Garib'. He understood what they meant and played everything with conviction.

Siddharth Malhotra was born in Surat,Gujarat and is the only child to Rajeev Malhotra and Leena Malhotra. His father hailed from a family of Punjabi origin, settled in New Delhi and her mother comes from a family settled in Amritsar. Siddharth belongs to an educated family. His father is a doctor and his mother is a school principal. Siddharth was interested in Acting from the School Days, but his parents wanted him to become an engineer. siddharth's parents are now quite happy with his work and due to his growing popularity.Siddharth Malhotra's mom was principal and he was not good at studies so he wanted to move back the time and wanted to show her mom his scorecard with 90% as he is very close to his mom.

What was your reaction when you were told that you were picked for Student Of The Year?It was a feeling of complete disbelief. I couldn’t believe my luck!

What was your equation with co-stars Varun Dhawan and Aalia Bhatt like?I’d worked with Varun so we knew each other. Aalia came across as easy-going and we had good fun.

Which classic film would you have chosen as your debut?Chupke Chupke (1975).

What are your memories of growing up in Delhi?I have some really nice memories of Delhi. Going swimming, roaming around in Defence Colony, cycling in its beautiful, wide lanes and enjoying good food.

What did you have to change about yourself to settle down in Bollywood?I had to work on my communication skills as social media is a big thing in Bollywood.

Are things better for newcomers now than they were 10 years ago?
Yes they are. Today everything is more organised and professional.
